Social Impact Philosophy
At Sophos, we are guided by the principle that business success is dependent on “protecting” communities. This sense of duty transcends digital boundaries and into the communities in which we operate. We are committed to doing our part in building an equitable future and creating a more sustainable world for generations to come.
FOSTER A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
Environment
Climate change is happening right now and requires immediate action to prevent the damage it will have on people and wildlife all over the world. These changes are already having drastic impacts on all life on Earth, which is why we want to do our part to help.
Sophos is committed to mitigating climate change and to pursuing greenhouse gas reduction, pollution prevention, resource conservation, and waste reduction in its operations, through:
- Seeking cleaner energy where practicable, and managing emissions effectively
- Reducing waste generation, increasing recycling rates, and working with suppliers to minimize waste and harmful environmental impacts
- Promoting resource efficiency (energy, water, etc.) in our solutions and services, as well as within our supply chains
- Designing solutions and services to optimize their environmental performance
- Reducing the environmental impact associated with products and packaging
- Conducting third-party audits and organizing self-assessments on our key suppliers regarding their environmental sustainability performance. Sophos will consider the results of these when procuring goods and services
- Sophos will align with the Responsible Business Alliance code of conduct to ensure working conditions within Sophos and the supply chains are safe, fair, environmentally responsible, and ethical.
- Encouraging our employees to raise ideas and suggestions on how to be more environmentally friendly.
- Developing of a responsible supply chain process to engage and work with our key suppliers to manage and reduce our whole life environmental impacts and ensure human rights within the supply chain.
To recognize the urgency of the climate change crisis, Sophos has donated to the World Resources Institute, which develops practical solutions that improve people’s lives and protect nature. The organization promotes environmental sustainability, economic opportunity, and human health and wellbeing. The WRI’s programs focus on solving seven major challenges at the intersection of environment and human development: cities, climate, energy, food, forests, the ocean, and water.
Sustainability
Beyond the impact of Sophos’ community, we recognize our duty in conducting our business activities in a responsible way. With over 4,000 employees across more than 25 offices, it is vital that we maintain the highest standards of conduct.
Sustainability is a growing point of conversation with an expectation to operate more responsibly and provide greater disclosure regarding sustainability performance. Sophos is embarking upon a journey to improve our sustainability now and for the future.
Sophos is committed to the principles embodied in the Responsible Business Alliance (RBA) Code of Conduct 7.0 (2021). Our commitment is the key to the Company’s business strategy, informs our decision making at all levels, and is core to the Company’s operating procedures.
Enhancing Communities
When communities thrive, we thrive. We believe in the common purpose of transforming communities and shaping the diverse workforce of tomorrow. Through financial contributions, partnering with nonprofit organizations, and employee volunteerism, our impact extends beyond the four walls of Sophos.
We regularly support a broad range of charities across the globe. For example, in 2021, we donated to more than 50 organizations addressing critical issues. These organizations represent categories such as disaster relief funds, environment, LGBTQ+ communities, veterans service organizations, mental health, and so much more. In addition, we provide product donations and laptops to support local schools.
India
An example of one of our major projects is our development program in India. We recognize the baseline for an equitable future starts with access and inclusion. That’s why Sophos has been at the forefront of uplifting the lives of individuals and families by investing in neighbor revitalization, healthcare, education, and economic empowerment throughout India.
Our work on improving education and gender equality
One of the main barriers preventing girls from getting an education are poverty, gender bias, gender-based violence and the lack of proper sanitation facilities in schools. Heeding the call to action, we sought to uplift Ropada, a small village in India.
We started by building a primary school that had access to clean drinking water, roads, solar streetlights, and sanitation facilities. Over the years, we expanded our efforts by providing quality education to rural students by adding mentorship and scholarship programs, building a science lab, implemented community programs to prevent dropouts, and continued to support other school-related activities. As a result, we have sponsored over 600 children, and 45% of those are girls.
Our work on breaking down economic barriers for people living with disabilities
More than 26 million people in India live with some form of disabilities. Through our partnership with the Smile Foundation and the Blind People’s Association, Sophos funded over 100 mini-convenience stores, creating jobs for people living with disabilities, across Ahmedabad, India.
Empower employee giving
Sophos employees want to support the causes they care about. And we’re here to support them by offering every employee 40 hours of paid volunteer time annually. Our goal is simple: make it easy for employees to engage in volunteer work that has a meaningful impact, is personally enriching, and helps us to fulfil what we consider to be our moral obligation to society.
